Barnstaple Town FC Sets Out Clear Plan for Stability and Growth

Club Update

Barnstaple Town F.C. has issued the first in a series of public updates outlining the club’s progress and priorities for the year ahead.
The club remains a private company limited by shares following the death of its former Chairman and majority shareholder in April last year. The 99% shareholding forms part of an ongoing Probate process, meaning the club’s legal structure remains unchanged at this time.

Chairman Paul Larter said:
“While Probate is a complex and lengthy process, it does not prevent us from moving forward. The club is stable, focused and working hard on clear objectives that will secure a strong and sustainable future.”

At Board level, Andrew Large has been appointed Company Director and Secretary alongside Chairman Paul Larter, following Martin Smallridge’s resignation for personal reasons.
Martin, who has given decades of service to the club, will continue as a valued member of the Committee.

Barnstaple Town benefits from a 17-strong volunteer Committee — described by the Chairman as “the lifeblood of the club” — who oversee day-to-day operations and long-term planning.

Six Key Priorities
The club has adopted six six-monthly priority areas:

Finance – The aim is to be debt-free and to generate an operating surplus, with renewed focus on increasing attendances and maximising clubhouse revenue, ensuring long-term sustainability.

Governance – Board-level measures have been implemented following expert advice to strengthen oversight and compliance.

Community – The club is seeking deeper engagement with supporters, sponsors and stakeholders. A quarterly Fans Forum is already in place, with further structured engagement planned.

Youth Development – A new Under-18s side will compete under the Barnstaple Town umbrella from next season, providing a clear pathway into senior football.

First Team – The club remains in contention for a promotion spot and has reached two cup semi-finals this season, with strong backing from supporters and committee alike.

Stadium Development – Discussions are underway with external bodies regarding potential funding support to modernise facilities, with the aim of minimising cost to the club.

Chairman Larter added:
“There is real momentum on and off the pitch. We are proud of the unity shown throughout the club over the past year. With the continued support of our volunteers, supporters and sponsors, we are building a Barnstaple Town fit for the future.”
Further updates will follow in the coming months
