Torrington 0-3 Barnstaple Town
Barum were in cup action against Torrington, who play in the South West Peninsula League, in the St Luke's Bowl. Barnstaple made several changes to the side, including first starts of the season for Alfie Sullivan and Mitch McCann, along with new signing Callum Watson.
Barnstaple started the game quickly when the ball was worked out to the left-hand side to Oscar Knight, who had an early chance to open the scoring. Just two minutes later, he was presented with the same opportunity and this time made no mistake, curling a superb effort into the top-right corner to give Barum an early 1-0 lead.
Torrington began to grow into the game, but were unable to match the Southern League side, who controlled possession for much of the half. Later in the first period, a misplaced pass left Luke Mortimore one-on-one with the goalkeeper, and he produced a delightful lobbed finish to double Barnstaple's advantage and make it 2-0 at the break.
The second half started with both teams creating a couple of chances, but neither goalkeeper was seriously troubled. Midway through the half, Barnstaple won a penalty following a foul in the box from a corner kick. Tommy Rogers stepped up and calmly placed the ball into the bottom-right corner, extending Barnstaple's lead to 3-0.
Barnstaple then made several changes, introducing Joe Hatch, Alex Moyse and Scott Piper. Just minutes after coming on, Hatch had the chance to score Barum's fourth goal, with two excellent opportunities, but both efforts were narrowly missed by the number nine.
Barnstaple comfortably saw out the remainder of the game, securing a 3-0 victory and progressing to the quarter-finals of the St Luke's Challenge Cup.
